Tuesday- Activity for Tuesday (DO MONDAY NIGHT TO PREPARE FOR TUESDAY) Watch Crash Course videoand answer the Question "What is one of the key facts that it mentions about Harriet Tubman in the video?" The answer to the question will be the phrase you say to a safe haven teacher. Wednesday-Activity for Wednesday (DO TUESDAY NIGHT TO PREPARE FOR WEDNESDAY) Scan the QR code( www.harriet-tubman.org/underground-railroad-secret-codes/). This will take you to a historical society website. You answer the following question:
"What was the code given when escaping slaves were hidden under farm produce in a wagon?"
The answer to the question will be the phrase you give to a SAFE HAVEN Teacher on Wednesday.
Thursday- To get the activity, you will have to search for it at school, but don't get caught. The clue that you are trying to find is in a locker at the school. The possible lockers it could be in are #00096, #00088, #0081, #0074, #00105. The locker combo to one of these lockers is #47-15-09. Don't be in groups larger than three, bounty hunters are looking everywhere for suspicious runaways. Maybe you could come up with a code that will warn other runaways of any bounty hunters in the area.
When you find the locker, you will need to scan the QR code and answer a question. The question you are going to answer is "What did the code hidden in the lyrics of "Wade in the Water" instruct runaway slaves to do?"
The answer to this question is the phrase you will give the Safe Havens. Good Luck!!!!! Friday-( Do this Thursday night to prepare for Friday) Read the newspaper article. It will give you a locker combo and the locker number. When you find the locker you will find a primary source poster. The primary source will answer the question "How is "Moses" wanted?" The answer to this question will be the phrase you give to the safe havens on Friday.
week 2
Monday-To prepare for tomorrow, you will need to watch this video . You will take notes and bring them to your teacher in exchange for the locker combo and list of possible lockers. Inside the lock there will be a question that you will need to answer. The answer to the question will go along with the video that you watched on Sunday. The answer to the question is the phrase that you will give to the Safe Haven for the day.
Tuesday-Read through the document to the right. The document will give you clues to open the lockbox in the Safe Haven for Tuesday.
When you get the lockbox open, take a picture of the document inside the box, put the document back in the box, show the Safe Haven teacher that you opened the box and they will sign your card. Make sure to lock the box back up.
The picture that you took will help you (give you a clue) for one of the lockbox's on Wednesday.
Wednesday- You should have gotten a code Tuesday from the safe haven lockbox. You will use that code to unlock the box on Wednesday in the safe haven. You will get another code today (Wednesday) that will be used to open one of the locks for tomorrow (Thursday).
Are you getting dizzy yet? Being in an unknown place and trying to make it somewhere that is also unknown can be overwhelming. Can you imagine how the Runaway Slaves felt. Do your best to persevere. Canada is right around the corner!!!!!
Thursday-You are getting so close!!!! Today you will have to do a few things. You will give the Safe Haven a phrase, that will be the answer to a question. The document that you analyze Wednesday night will not only answer the question, which will give you the phrase, but it will also give you a clue to open the second lockbox in the Safe Haven room.
So, you will do the activity tonight, which will give you a phrase and a clue, then you will have two box's that you will be unlocking today (Thursday). You will have a lockbox with a 3 digit code that you got in yesterdays (Wednesday's) lockbox. You will have a larger box too, that will give you clues to Friday's lockbox. So, phrase to Safe Have, then they will let you attempt the lock box's, you need to open the small lockbox, first, it will help you with the large lockbox clue.
Analyze the primary source Question: What is happening to freed men, women, and children and what are the documents trying to do?
Answer will be the phrase that you give to the Safe Haven teacher.
Friday-Today is the last day. Are you ready for Canada? To make it to Canada, you must have 7 signatures on your card. You will have to show this to Canada in order to get your "freedom" (i.e. reward). The clue that you found yesterday will help you get into the lockbox in the Safe Haven, which will give you a clue as to where Canada is.
Can you imagine the relief a person would feel? To have worked as hard as they had to, and then to actually be free. For you, you get a reward after all of your hard work. For them, it was a new life.
You have done such a great job and worked so hard. We have heard some great things coming from many of the teachers around the school and we are so proud of all your hard work! Great Job!!! You should be so proud of your perseverance and for solving all the puzzles. Try and reflect how a runaway slave would have felt. Use this to empathize with those that experienced life differently from you. In the end, you will grow and become a better person.
